Jeffrey Wright was born on December 7, 1965 in Washington, DC Jeff unfortunately lost his father when he was only one year old. He was raised by his mother, a lawyer who worked at US Customs, and his aunt, who was a nurse.
The African-American actor was in attendance at St. Alban’s School for Boys in Washington, DC and later studied Political Science at Amherst College. During his studies, he discovered his innate acting interests and skills.
After graduating from Amherst in 1987, he pursued his theater interests at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. However, although Wright was in NYU on a full scholarship, he dropped out after two months to take his acting career to the next professional level.
Wright has an extensive roster of actors, both on stage and screen. His first film role was in the 1990 film Presumed Innocent . His film breakthrough came in 1996 with the film Basquiat , where he played the lead role of the late painter Jean Michel Basquiat. The film earned him numerous nominations.
