Floyd Mayweather has six of the 10 biggest gates in Las Vegas boxing history thanks to fights agains
Former five-weight world champion Floyd Mayweather still boasts six of the 10 biggest gates in Las Vegas history five years after he walked away from boxing.
Since retiring with a perfect 50-0 record, Mayweather has enjoyed putting on special shows for the fans. He’ll continue to do so this weekend when he takes on his former sparring partner Don Moore in an exhibition bout on the helipad of the Burj Al Arab Jumeriah Hotel in Dubai.
The super-exclusive $100,000 per ticket event is sure to be lucrative but is a far cry from what ‘Money’ would’ve made during the peak of his boxing prowess.
Mayweather was the main attraction in Las Vegas for many years and brought in a lot of cash to the city, by putting on some of the biggest boxing events in history.
‘The Best Ever’ truly earned his nickname when he finally settled his long-term rivalry with eight-weight world champion Manny Pacquiao in 2015.
In the end, the fight was a bit underwhelming but Mayweather got the win and claims he made $300 million for the 12 rounds of work.
That figure may seem high but it’s understandable when you take one look at the numbers Mayweather-Pacquiao brought in, in terms of pay-per-view sales and gate.
The fight sold 4.6 million PPVs, more than any other fight in history, and had a gate of $72,198,500.00. These are ridiculous numbers, even by Mayweather’s lofty standards, and are unlikely to be beaten in the near future, if ever.

By 2017, Mayweather was ready to sail off into the sunset and did so in the most business savvy way possible – by taking on the easiest opponent of his career for the most money he’s ever made.
The 45-year-old made $350 million when he fought UFC star and boxing debutant Conor McGregor in the squared circle in a bout aptly named ‘The Money Fight’.
Mayweather vs McGregor was a smash hit and just fell shy of the Pacquiao fight in terms of pay-per-view numbers, selling 4.3 million worldwide.
Again, the gate was slightly lower at $55,414,865.79. However, that is due to the fact that 3,000 fewer people were permitted at the T-Mobile Arena than Mayweather brought into the MGM Grand for his fight with PacMan two years prior.
The fights against Pacquiao and McGregor are ridiculous outliers that no one will ever replicate. Mayweather’s numbers take a dip outside these fights but are still the best in Las Vegas boxing history.
An aging Floyd decided to take on the next boxing superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in 2013. The aging star schooled the young lion over 12 rounds for a decision win that allowed him to cross over into the new era of boxing.
The fight was highly anticipated and was a great success in terms of gate, with a crowd of 16,000 bringing in $20,003,150.00. It’s the fifth biggest gate in Las Vegas of all time.
Mayweather’s fights against Oscar De la Hoya ($18,419,200.00) and Marcos Maidana ( $15,024,400.00 & $14,899,150.00) complete his six top-10 entries but the boxing legends name is littered throughout the top 35.
High-profile fights against Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, and Victor Ortiz all brought in huge gates, some of the best ever, just not to the insane standards set by Mayweather in his very best events.
